Coated Calcium Carbonate Powder Features and Modifier
The uncoated CaCO₃ powder is less compatible with organic polymer, and cannot be distributed unevenly in the polymer, which is not good for the contact face between these two material.
The coated CaCO₃ is produced by the technology of surface modification with the help of surface modifier or mixed additives.
After surface modification, the CaCO₃ powder is coated with a special wrapped structure, which can improve the property of distribution and compatibility with the polymer to increase the shock strength.
As the CaCO₃ is inorganic，it is very easy mixed with hydrophilic group in the surface modifier. So the CaCO₃ become more Oleophilic, which is much more compatible with resin organic.
The coated CaCO₃ can increase the compatibility between inorganic filler and resin. And also can increase material heat stability and surface smoothness, decrease the usage of resin, lower cost for producing PP, PE, Rubber and etc
The common way to do surface modification:
- Dry the calcium carbonate and remove the moisture with temperature (100-110℃) within 0.5-1 hour (the shorter, the better)
- Put the dried CaCO₃ into the coating machine; and mix the CaCO₃ with the input of stearic acid (about 0.8-1.0% of the CaCO₃) (temperature= About 100℃; time: 15-30 minutes)
- Finished product can be packed
There are another two good CaCO₃ surface modifier:
1) Isopropyl dioleic(dioctylphosphate) titanate
2) aluminate coupling agent
